Software Tools
  1. MASE: Maintenance Audit and System Effectiveness
An electronic software tool, designed to make the job of the auditor easy and to clearly highlight the strengths ,weakness and effectiveness of the maintenace functions of an organization.
  2. FBD (Functional Block Diagram): A software tool to define in a systematic way the interaction between various systems in a complex manufacturing plant,.
  3. Hi-build (Hierarchy Build): A software to define the parent-child relationship of different equipment in a plant
  4. FECAS (Functional and Equipment Criticality Analysis Software): A software to define the criticality of each function/equipment in a plant
  5. H-RCM (Reliability Centred Maintenance software): This software aids in conducting the RCM analysis, used to improve the reliability of an asset in a plant.

1. MASE: Maintenance Audit and System Effectiveness

  • This is an in-house developed tool, ready for sale.
  • This software tool facilitates studying various functions in all the departments, and rank the existing practices in an as-is condition.
  • MASE incorporates a series of carefully organized questions to simplify the assessor’s auditing process, on the multi-faceted maintenance function.
  • The questions are close-ended, focused to apply weightage for different functions and staff levels of all the departments.
  • The information derived through these questions is mathematically assessed to provide a functional ranking.
  • MASE is a user-friendly analysis tool, developed in MS-Access and VB 6.0.

Features

  • Function-wise questionnaire covers all tasks of maintenance management
  • As-is-where ranking is generated to highlight the prevailing scenario
  • Spider diagram graphically represents the functional rating
  • Ranking helps the organization to prioritize and focus on specific areas such as:
    • Budget planning and Costing
    • Overall Equipment Effectiveness
    • Work order system
    • Computerized Maintenance Management System
    • Health, Safety & Environment
    • Engineering support to Maintenance

2. FBD (Functional Block Diagram) tool: IDEF0, developed by Knowledge Based Systems Inc., Texas, USA.

  • Integrated Definition for Function Modeling (IDEF0) is a software standard modeling technique designed to model the decisions, actions, and activities of an organization or system.
  • IDEF was derived from a well-established graphical language, the Structured Analysis and Design Technique (SADT).
  • Effective IDEF models help to organize the analysis of a system and to promote good communication between the analyst and the customer.
  • It is useful in establishing the scope of an analysis, especially for a functional analysis.
  • As an analysis tool, IDEF assists in identifying the various functions performed and their complex inter relationships
  • IDEF0 models are often created as one of the first tasks of a system development effort.

Cell Modeling Graphic Representation

  • The "box and arrow" graphics of an IDEF0 diagram show the function as a box and the interfaces to or from the function as arrows entering or leaving the box.
  • To express functions, boxes operate simultaneously with other boxes, with the interface arrows "constraining" when and how operations are triggered and controlled.
  • The basic syntax for an IDEFØ model is shown in the figure below.

3. Hi-build (Hierarchy Build) tool:

  • This is an in-house developed tool, ready for sale.
  • This software tool facilitates the user to arrange all the equipment of a plant in a hierarchical manner, suitable for use while devising the maintenance programs
  • This tool allows the user to pick and choose the equipment from the list and arrange them at the appropriate hierarchical level
  • Export facility to MS-Excel format is available, suitable for porting in any CMMS.

4. FECAS (Functional and Equipment Criticality Analysis Software)

  • This is an in-house developed tool, ready for sale.
  • This software tool facilitates ranking each function/equipment of a plant according to the criticality derived in terms of Health, Safety & Environment ( HSE) & Production effects.
  • The rating arrived for each of the selected parameters is mathematically arranged to assign the overall criticality rating for each function/equipment.
  • This user-friendly analysis tool is developed in MS-Access and VB 6.0.
  • Export facility to MS-Excel format is available, suitable for porting in any CMMS.
  • The reports available are:
    • Criticality-wise functional report
    • Criticality-wise equipment report
    • Pie-Charts
    • Bar-graphs

5. H-RCM (Reliability Centred Maintenance)

  • This is an in-house developed tool, ready for sale.
  • The Maintenance strategy and Failure analysis (Hidden / Safety / Evident / Operation) are obtained using the RCM tree structure.
  • The failure modes for each type of equipment are available in the library. If the user desires, facility is given to add additional failure modes.
  • Cause and effect for the selected failure modes are available in the library. If the user desires, facility is given to add additional causes and effects.
  • For the identified failure modes, user can select the suitable tasks from the library or they can be keyed in separately.
  • For the selected tasks, frequency and crew can be selected from the library if applicable
  • Cost analysis for crew, spares and tools can be done.
  • This is a user-friendly analysis tool, developed in MS-Access and VB 6.0.
  • For similar equipment, data copying facility is provided.
  • Export facility to MS-Excel format is available, suitable for porting in any CMMS.
  • Reports available are:
    • Equipment-wise maintenance task, frequency and crew
    • Equipment-wise failure modes, causes and effects
    • Equipment-wise crew cost, spare cost and tools cost
